Esoteric tradition plays an important part in the religious history of India. Among the many esoteric traditions, Tantrism is one with a highly complex socio-religious and philosophic tradition that not only prevailed in India but also in many South Asian countries such as Japan, Nepal, Tibet and China. Tantrism is a kind of systematic psycho-physical practices that is developed within all the major Indic religions, viz. Hinduism Buddhism and Jainism. Assam is said to have been the birthplace of Tantra and heartland of Tantrism. The period, particularly after seventh century to the age of Neo-Vaishnavite movement of Assam in the sixteenth century, Tantrism became an integral part of religious tradition in Assam. This book aims at the study of the long tradition of tantrism and its huge influence on the theology, arts, iconography, temples, and rituals of mainstream religion along with socio-cultural life in Assam
