The book describes the life story of a young girl named Hannah and a young boy named Brian. Hannah as been blessed with too many toys, a family that dotes on her, perhaps a little too much, and vacations, and Christmases and Birthdays and presents. She is a child of "plenty". By contrast, Brian has a small family, and when his Mom takes sick has to move to his Grandma & Grandpa's farm. He has what he needs but wants so much more than he has; he does not get presents at Christmas or on Birthdays and learns how to be self-sufficient and charming. Brian is a child of "want". They grow up. After a fateful prayer to God, each of them finds the other. They meet and fall in love. They have two little boys and all the love a family can offer and they and their little boys become the child of "plenty".
