Author Biography

Frank Dufort is a sales and use tax expert with over 16 years of experience working in both the public and private sectors. Early in his career Mr. Dufort worked for the Virginia Department of Taxation where he was responsible for responding to inquiries from taxpayers, lawyers, CPAs and government officials concerning state sales and use tax accounts, laws and notice of tax assessments. While at the Department of Taxation Mr. Dufort was selected to work full time with American Management Systems on a multi-million dollar project to overhaul the Department's accounting systems, tax policies and internal controls. Mr. Dufort then moved to the private sector where he served as Manager of Sales and Use Tax for a large corporation with over 235 retail locations in 24 states and annual sales totaling more than $1.8 billion. Mr. Dufort's extensive work experience not only encompasses overseeing the daily sales and use tax processes for the corporation's retail, wholesale and manufacturing operations, it also included administering sales tax exemptions, writing private ruling letters, requesting waiver of tax assessments and the coordination and supervision of all the business's sales and use tax audits.
