by Lou Allin (Author)

In this new series by the acclaimed author of the Belle Palmer mysteries, RCMP Corporal Holly Martin takes charge of her first post, a detachment in tiny Fossil Bay on the wild south coast of Vancouver Island. Drunk drivers, speeders and the occasional theft from tourist cars lead the crime roster, but her first day starts with a distress call. A scuba diver has found the body of a girl in the surf. A tragic drowning caused by a fall? The late arrival of tox-scan results for crystal meth, the most recent plague to hit the island, raises ugly questions. Just before Holly makes an arrest, a record-setting typhoon roars in, empowered to destroy everything in its path. As the wind howls and trees crash around her, Holly struggles to survive and to bring a murderer to justice.

Author Biography

Lou Allin sings two national anthems, having been born in Toronto but raised in Ohio. She recently relocated to Sooke, British Columbia. As often as possible, Lou travels to the Four Corners area of the American Southwest to spend her summers. After obtaining a Ph.D. in English Renaissance literature, Lou headed north, ending up at Cambrian College in Sudbury, Ontario, where she taught literature, writing, and public speaking for 23 years, until her recent retirement. Lou is currently the vice president of the Crime Writers of Canada (West) and is continuing to write mystery novels. Northern Winters Are Murder, her first of five Belle Palmer mysteries, was released in the fall of 2000, Memories Are Murder, the last of the series, in 2007. While discovering the delights of the outdoors in her new home on Vancouver Island, Lou has created a new West Coast mystery series, the first of which is And on the Surface Die.
