Growing up in Hawaii, Bethany Hamilton loved being outside and joining her friends and brothers in adventures. She especially loved to surf. One calm morning while she was waiting for a wave, a fourteen-foot tiger shark crept up on her and swiftly severed her arm. After being rushed to the hospital and recovering, this thirteen-year-old was determined to surf again. And she did -- just three weeks after her accident.
