Along the way they become friends with another young deer couple, Bobby and Bonnie. They also become friends with a mother bear, are assisted by an owl and encounter nice and mean humans. The main characters are animals, but their journey is similar to mankind's struggle to understand life.

Malcolm Byrd believes in a higher power and in our personal power as spiritual/human beings to improve the lives of others. He has written plays, children's stories, and humorous social commentary. His education includes a B. S. in Psychology and a master's degree in Creative Writing from the University of Southern Mississippi. My Young Buck Billy is a children's play he adapted from Billy the Young Buck. He's inspired by nature and great writers like Richard Bach and E. B. White. A walk in the woods provided the inspiration for Billy the Young Buck. "As you work hard to make your dreams come true, don't forget to appreciate and preserve the environment."
