by Tad Clark (Author)

Along the eastern Canada-US border on the Saint Lawrence Seaway is one of North America's best-kept secrets-the Thousand Islands, an archipelago of private isles. A well-known destination for the rich and famous in the late nineteenth century, it's likely to only be recognized today as the place where Thousand Island dressing originated. For one family, however, it holds memories of a different story.

Comfort Island recounts not only the history of the Thousand Islands region, but follows the Alson E. Clark family and their remarkable residence on Millionaire's Row through six generations. While his island neighbors saw this scenic wonderland as an extended playground, Alson and his wife Sarah built their eight-bedroom, 6,500-square-foot Victorian mansion to escape from personal tragedy and create a new life for their three sons.

In his memoir, author Tad Clark, the fourth-generation owner of the property, invites you to experience the incomparable magic of the place as he revisits the shared lore of earlier family members, as well as the fifty summers he spent on the island.
