This book provides an overview of why Emotional Intelligence (EI) is a critical skill for military leaders by offering some basic information on where and how EI can make a difference in military organizations. This book raises the awareness of military leaders to this valuable and available pathway to effective leadership. The intent is to show how Emotional Intelligence can make a positive impact in several key areas of military leadership.
Author Biography
Gerald F. Sewell is an assistant professor of military leadership at the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, KS. He works in the Department of Command and Leadership and is the Department and College lead on integrating emotional intelligence into the Military Leadership curriculum. He also teaches an electives course on Emotional Intelligence at the college. He holds a B.A. from Bowie State College in English and an M.A. from The George Washington University in Education and Human Development. He is a retired Lieutenant Colonel from the U.S. Army; where he served in a variety of command and staff positions in the continental United States and overseas.
