Burke was born in 1954 in a small manufacturing \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003etown in the North Berkshire Hills of Massachusetts.His father, \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eEdward, had been a sergeant in the Marine Corp before \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ebecoming manager of a Mobil Flying-A Gasoline station; his \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003emother, Claire Burke nee Kelly, had worked in a textile mill \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ebefore becoming a full-time housewife. Both of his parents \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003edied young: his mother at twenty-eight--at which time his \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003efather moved him and his three siblings to the home of the \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003epaternal grandparents. His father died at thirty-two. The four \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003echildren were raised by the grandparents and an Uncle. The \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003egrandfather was owner and operator of BURKE'S INN, a \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003egenerational business begun previous to the First World War. \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eWayne F. Burke attended public school, and after graduating \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003efrom High School, three institutions of higher learning before \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003egraduating from Goddard College in 1979 (B.A. RUP). After \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003egraduation he traveled around the country, living in a variety \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eof places and working at a variety of occupations (presently, \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ehe is employed as an LPN in a nursing home). In the late-\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e80's he located himself in the central Vermont area and has \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eremained since. He published mostly prose until 2013 when \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ehis first poetry collection was published. He was fifty-eight \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eyears old. ESCAPE FROM THE PLANET CROUTON is his \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e7th published poetry collection.
