by Samuel Toufic Eloud (Author)

This is a true story of war told with both humor and gravity from a young boy's perspective, a perspective that matures and broadens as he comes of age. Boyhood escapades that rival Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn are part of everyday life along with more daring deeds and just-in-time Houdini-like escapes. The survival skills he learned as a boy living through the 1975 Lebanese civil war and the 1982 Israeli invasion served him well during the second chapter of his life as he pays the consequences for making the world look at what was happening in Beirut whether they wanted to or not.

Author Biography

Born in Texas and raised in Beirut, Lebanon, Sam's youth was filled with boyhood adventures as well as constant danger. The first half of his memoir, For the Love of Beirut, chronicles with humor and realism his adventures, struggles, and mishaps during the 1975 civil war and the 1982 Israeli invasion of Lebanon. His journey to Virginia in 1986 and his decision to bring attention to the devastation taking place in Beirut started a new chapter in his life as well as his book. Currently, Sam works as a personal trainer in his adopted city of Richmond, VA.
