Sid Batts served as senior pastor and primary preacher at downtown Greensboro's First Presbyterian Church from 2001 to 2018. As he retired from the ministry, members of the church selected some of their favorite sermons for collection here. Sermon topics range from the history of the Reformed tradition, social and political changes, community involvement, and racism.

Author Biography

Dr. Sid Batts began his pastorate at First Presbyterian Church in Greensboro, N.C., in January 2001, the 11th senior pastor since the church's founding in 1824. A native North Carolinian, Sid holds degrees from High Point University, Princeton Theological Seminary, and McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago. During his career he served churches in Mobile, Ala.; Atlanta; and Dunn and Lowell, N.C. He has been active in the work of presbyteries in addition to civic involvement in local communities, and served as a board member of Columbia Theological Seminary. His interests includes golf and good books. Sid is married to Cathy Armstrong, a native of Charlotte, and they have two adult children who are married with children. Cathy is a retired educator and former school principal in Guilford County Schools. In addition to several sermon collections, Sid is the author of The Protestant Wedding Sourcebook, published by WJK Press.
