This is an English translation of the Punjabi epic poem Heer Waris Shah. The poem has remained popular among Punjabis for almost three centuries. The author believes that non-Punjabis would also enjoy this work, because of its many merits. It is a heart wrenching romantic tragedy, a faithful portrayal of an alien culture, and an allegorical work with potent religious meaning. It should also find acceptance among those Punjabis, and their children, who cannot read the original, Gurmukhi or Shahmukhi, version.
Author Biography
The author was born and raised in Lahore, Pakistan, and has always loved Punjabi poetry, especially Heer. He has lived in the United States of America for forty five years, and has previously published in the fields of fiction (short story), psychology and politics.
