On January 4, 2022, a yearling deer wandered in to my yard while I was reading a children's storybook, "The Snowman" by Raymond Briggs.
My dog, Leif, barked at something moving in the backyard. When I looked out the patio doors, a yearling stood on the deck, with frost covering its sweet face. I knew it was hungry, so I went to the fridge to find some vegetables and fruit to feed the yearling. The "Wee one" touched my heart during the coldest months of the year. Soon, I had a herd of deer staying with me. Over the following months, many deer stayed with me. However, the "Wee one" became my favourite. And I named it "Sunflower" since the yearling had petal-like markings above his soft brown eyes.
