When \u003cb\u003eSun\u003c\/b\u003e was absorbed into \u003cb\u003eLion\u003c\/b\u003e he moved on to illustrating \u003ci\u003eOlac the Gladiator\u003c\/i\u003e, \u003ci\u003eKarl the Viking\u003c\/i\u003e and \u003ci\u003eMaroc the Mighty\u003c\/i\u003e. In 1965 he teamed with Mike Butterworth to create \u003ci\u003eThe Rise and Fall of the Trigan Empire\u003c\/i\u003e for \u003cb\u003eRanger\u003c\/b\u003e magazine, and continued to paint the comic through its transition into \u003cb\u003eLook and Learn\u003c\/b\u003e through to 1976. After leaving \u003ci\u003eThe Trigan Empir\u003c\/i\u003ee he worked with a Dutch publisher to create \u003cb\u003eStorm\u003c\/b\u003e, a post-apocalypse sci-fi series, which he would draw through to his retirement in 1999 \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003eBefore entering the comic industry \u003cb\u003eTed Cowan\u003c\/b\u003e worked as a lab assistant at Shell-Mex then enlisted into the RAF as WWII broke out. Forced to re-enlist with the army after a crash, he became a dispatch rider, but another accident saw an end to his career in the services.\u003cbr\u003eAfter picking up a comic and being unimpressed by the writing inside, Cowan wrote to Stan Boddington, then editor of \u003cb\u003eChampion\u003c\/b\u003e. Boddington gave him a chance and Cowan started on \u003ci\u003eGinger Nutt\u003c\/i\u003e - a successful strip about a young Australian boy, which ran for almost seven years.\u003cbr\u003eCowan's next strip - \u003ci\u003eThe Jungle Robot\u003c\/i\u003e - appeared in the first issue of \u003cb\u003eLion\u003c\/b\u003e. Many adventures featuring Robot Archie were to follow.
