Originally formed from the Beekman Precinct on May 20, 1769, the town of Pawling has been called the Hudson Valley's best-kept secret. Pawling was the site of General Washington's headquarters in 1778 and the residence of two-time Republican nominee for president Gov. Thomas E. Dewey.
