Author Biography

Founding Father Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) spent most of his long life in service to the infant democracy as a diplomat and statesman. The founder of the nation's first lending library and its first fire department, Franklin was also a printer and author as well as a noted scientist who made pioneering discoveries related to electricity. His inventions include the lightning rod, bifocals, the Franklin stove, and the musical instrument known as the glass armonica.
