Gouache, a water-based medium that is similar to watercolor, can be used in a way that is slightly different. Both watercolor and gouache use the same binder, gum Arabic. Guumbache also contains finely ground natural chalk, which is a precipitated ingredient. Gouache contains more pigment particles that are larger and not as finely ground. Gouache is thicker and has a greater covering power than watercolor.
