by Jewelle Villarisco (Illustrator), Ayer Fleming (Author)

You don't like being told what to do, right? Who does Well neither does Shae Butter. "Do your homework." "Brush your teeth." "Set the table." Sometimes it just gets to be too much for one girl to handle. That's when Shae discovers that she has a secret talent - she can take her ears right off No ears, no directions, no problems... Can it really be that simple?

Shae Butter is a funny and feisty character whose unique story is brought to life in this early chapter book through the writing of author Ayer Fleming. She is sure to connect with any kid exploring whether a tweenager's desire for independence can really be satisfied by tuning out all of the grown ups. As her best friends Bree and Eve are dragged along for the ride there will be ups, downs and a lesson or two learned along the way.

Author Biography

Many moons ago the Fleming household was blessed with a screaming bundle of joy. Shortly thereafter, in a succession of moments involving deep introspection, the following truths were revealed to Ayer:

1. No matter how cute the baby, diapers are really that bad 2. The phrase "spit up" doesn't mean what you think it is 3. Yes you will get extremely excited, dare I say euphoric, about a small human using the potty

Since then the bundle of joy has grown into a vibrant, energetic young woman whose creativity mixed with abject stubborness has inspired may of the children's stories that Ayer writes.

Ayer Fleming has been writing since he could hold a pencil and scribble on paper. While his early works were under appreciated, he began his first book at only 8 years old. Through the turmoil of high school and college Ayer's writing expanded to short stories, fan fiction, and poetry.

Today, Ayer writes children's stories based on his experiences raising his own and tales from other parents.
