St. Joan of Arc (1412-1431) Daughter of pious French peasants, St. Joan of Arc was called by God at the age of 13 to help drive the English from French territory. At the age of 16 she began to lead the French army into battle against the English. She was eventually captured and sold to the English for 10,000 gold coins. The English put her on trial for heresy and witchcraft, then after she refused to recant her faith, they burned her at the stake. St. Joan of Arc is the patron saint of France, martyrs, captives, people ridiculed for their piety, prisoners, and women who have served in the military.
