This textbook, Successful Battle in Treating Low Back Pain with Herbal Remedies was written to tell people about my personal battle with low back pain. Five years later, no surgery, but I still use herbs to manage pain flare ups and insomnia. A lot of people asked why I decided to develop a natural pain line and devote my life to natural pain management. It is not a substitute for the book The Use of Herbal Remedies in the Treatment of Pain that explains the science behind herbal pain management. This book finally tells my battle with low back pain. Despite the medical advice, I refused surgery, did not tolerate spinal injections of local anesthetics with steroids, and found it unacceptable to be prescribed pain medications that did not allow me to work. In fact, the medications prescribed had serious consequences on my quality of life and even ability to hold a job. This book will describe how I used herbs to replace prescription pain medications for low back pain. It will also address the use of herbs for some of the other implications of living with pain Many people with low back pain face the challenge of sleeping at night. Author Biography

Guy Chamberland was first introduced to Chinese herbal medicine in 1990. This launched his interest in herbal medicine, and over the years he studied the pharmacology of many herbs. Subsequently he wrote a chapter entitled "Developing Drug-Device Combination Products with Unapproved Components" for the textbook Clinical Evaluation of Medical Devices, edited by Becker, Karen M. and Whyte, John J., Humana Press, 2006. In 2007 Guy Chamberland began studying the additive and synergistic effects obtained when combining plant extracts. His interest in herbal pain management began early in 2007 after suffering from a L4-L5 disc hernia. This book is about how he successfully treated this condition using herbal remedies. In 2009 Guy Chamberland founded a company called CuraPhyte Technologies Inc. (www.curaphyte.com; www.enteriphyte.com ) that specializes in the development and commercialization of evidence-based herbal remedies. The company has two major axes of activities: one devoted to commercializing quality products for patient self-care lines, and the other devoted to commercializing professional product lines and working closely with health practitioners to further understand the treatment of pain with herbal remedies.
