Grizzly Flats is an isolated, rural community in the Sierra foothills, on the west side of the mountains, at about 4000 ft. elevation. Gold rush country. Barney and LaVonne Strohm retired there in 1986, and set out to meet their new neighbors. They discovered a wonderland of great characters and real history -- the perfect place for LaVonne's journalistic passion. Tales from Grizzly Flats compiles all her chronicles -- of the school, post office, fire department, water supply, railroads, cemeteries, and old families: first hand experiences captured from the old timers in these parts, many now gone.
Author Biography
LaVonne Strohm retired to Grizzly Flats, California, with her husband, Barney, in 1986. Together they currently enjoy their large family, most of whom will gather this October (2016) to honor and celebrate LaVonne and Barney's 90th birthdays and 69th year of marriage. Tales from Grizzly Flats is LaVonne's first published book.
