Almost two decades have passed since I wrote this essay on happiness. As with much of my writing, my reflections on the subject were a consequence of my personal experiences. As I have grown older, I have become even more aware of the temporary nature of happiness. These essays address the question of what makes for happiness through an old Chinese adage which states that happiness is someone to love, something to do and something to hope for. I hope this new edition will bring the reader some pleasure, including happiness.
