Author Biography

Kristen Sgambat, RD, is a pediatric nutritionist who has been working with children at one of the nation's leading pediatric hospitals for over 13 years. She holds a Master's Degree in nutrition and has been published in a wide variety of scientific journals. Kristen enjoys helping children learn about healthy eating in ways that are fun and interesting to them. Kevin Hackett is Senior National Program Leader for the USDA Agricultural Research Service where he is leading research to save the honeybees. Dr. Hackett has published over 100 scientific papers and is the recipient of major national and international awards. He authored the science fiction novel, Sen Secluded, and enjoys turning the stories he once made up for his children into written stories for other children to enjoy. He lives in Maryland and enjoys collaborating with his wife, Kathy, on BYTES Power Smarts. Kathleen Hackett, B.S., has over 35 years of teaching experience in the fields of education of gifted children, education of deaf students, and adult literacy. She is the recipient of The Washington Post Outstanding Educator Award, the Maryland State Department of Education Chair's Group Award - Initiative for Maryland Minority Students, and is listed in Who's Who Among American Teachers. She is passionate about helping children become aware of their multiple intelligences (Power Smarts) and encouraging families to have face-to-face conversations about interesting topics.
