Eight-year-old, Sam sometimes spends time in the hospital due to his rare blood disease, sickle cell. His friend from church, Miss Gurdy, hears his parents ask the congregation to say a prayer of healing for Sam, and decides to make her extra-special chocolate chip cookies for him. As soon as he eats, he feels better.
Miss Gurdy goes on a mission trip, and soon afterward Sam goes in the hospital again. Overnight, two glasses of milk appear on his bedside table with the cookies his nurse had brought him. The note left told them the secret ingredient that Miss Gurdy uses in her cookie recipe. When Sam sees what it is, he decides to use that ingredient to help other sick children.
