Samuel Bavli, the author of The Secret of the Sphinx, lived in New York City as a boy, and every day he cut out of school during lunch period, to visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art. There, he was intrigued by a sphinx that stood at the entrance to the Egyptian section. He wondered what secrets the sphinx had to tell, if only the sphinx could talk . . . .
