The launch of an unprovoked full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation in February 2022 was a jolting turn of events for the majority of Western scholars studying Eastern Europe. Volodymyr Kravchenko is Professor of History at the University of Alberta and the former director of the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies. Marko Robert Stech is a writer, literary scholar, and specialist in the history of culture and the Director of CIUS Press.
