Matt Francis' religious education began in childhood. While attending a Seventh-Day Adventist church and school, he came to perceive God as a vengeful presence ready to strike the moment he strayed from the path. After leaving the Seventh-Day Adventist faith as a teenager, he searched for a church where he felt a meaningful association, and his search would carry on into adulthood.
