by Frater Acher (Author)

Trutmezzer: A Blade of Two Ways is a study of the Old German witch-knife, a festishistic magical weapon used for protection of the body and the spirit.

Back Jacket

In his first book for Three Hands Press, Frater Acher examines the legendary knife of the of the German witches, a magical blade known as the Trutmezzer. At once a tool of spiritual protection and a doorway between worlds, Trutmezzer is an enduring feature of German animism, yet one rarely investigated.

The book is presented in two parts. The first draws from the annals of folklore, legend, magic and archaeology, speaking of the knife's physical form and its association with the dreaded night-spirit the Trud or Drude. The second part recounts the author's personal journey leading to his study, creation, and use of his own 'witch-blades'. Through this process of spiritual awakening, a unique understanding is gained of the ancient spirits of the Trutmezzer and their capacity for revealing hidden worlds. Now available in softcover, the book features original illustrations by Rowan Cassidy and calligraphic ornamentations by Delia Vico.
