After Kent, Darcy had confessed all to his cousin Colonel Fitzwilliam, including Wickham's presence in the militia in Meryton. Fitzwilliam keeps an eye on Wickham and prevents the elopement, meaning that Elizabeth's stay in Derbyshire is not interrupted.
