The civilian population, \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eincluding Nurses, Air Raid Wardens and the female operators\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eof the London Telephone Exchange, who refused to leave their\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eposts during the air raids to keep military lines of\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ecommunication open, played its part too.
